Two henleys in the same size, one short sleeve and one long, will share a chest measurement and a body length. They will still fit differently in four places, and knowing where saves a return. None of the four is about the number on the label. They are about where a sleeve ends, what a cuff does, and how a heavier knit moves.
A henley is one of the few shirts that works in three positions in an outfit. It can be the only thing you are wearing above the waist, it can sit under something, and a long-sleeve one can sit over a tee. Each position asks for a different placket setting and a different sleeve, and getting the pairing right is most of what styling a henley comes down to.
Most of a henley is a tee, and a tee asks for almost nothing. The placket is different. It carries buttons, buttonholes, a reinforced strip, and a neckband rib, and all four of them react to washing and drying in ways the rest of the shirt does not. Care for the placket and the rest of the shirt takes care of itself.
